Mayor Bruce Teague officially commemorated the week by issuing a mayoral proclamation during the June 2 City Council meeting, legally declaring the week of June 17, 2026, as Waste and Recycling Workers Week in Iowa City
. The city is pairing the proclamation with public educational resources to help citizens “recycle right” as a way of thanking their local drivers.
