Miami-Dade County celebrates Waste and Recycling Workers Week 2026

MIAMI-DADE ( June 12, 2026 )–

The Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) is honored to celebrate the tireless efforts and commitment of its staff and recycling partners during Waste and Recycling Workers Week, observed the week of June 15-21. The DSWM leadership team commends its operational, administrative, and support staff, as well as contractors for their critical role in delivering dependable and efficient waste and recycling services to more than 350,000 households across Miami-Dade County.

This year’s theme, “One Team, Many Roles, One Goal”, recognizes the collective contributions of employees and partners across all areas of waste and recycling operations.

“We are proud to recognize and celebrate the dedicated waste and recycling professionals who help keep Miami-Dade County clean and safe every single day,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Their hard work and commitment are essential to the health and quality of life of our community, and we are incredibly grateful for the vital services they provide to residents year-round. As we honor these workers, we also encourage our community to do its part by recycling right and helping reduce contamination in the recycling stream.”

Waste and Recycling Workers Week is a national initiative, started in 2012 by John D. Arwood, to honor the essential contributions of workers in the waste and recycling industry. This annual celebration highlights their vital role in keeping communities clean and environmentally responsible.

“Our employees, contractors, and recycling partners are truly the backbone of the essential services we provide to our community,” said DSWM Director Aneisha Daniel. “They show up every day with dedication, professionalism, and a strong commitment to serving our residents. From field operations to administrative and customer support roles, every team member plays an important part in delivering these essential services. Waste and Recycling Workers Week is an important opportunity to recognize and thank them for the incredible work they do every day to help keep Miami-Dade running safely and efficiently.”

Throughout the week, DSWM will showcase its appreciation for its workforce through a series of worksite events, as well as dedicated posts and videos on its social media platforms, including X, Instagram, and Facebook.

DSWM employees and contractors provide customers with a wide variety of waste and recycling related services. These services include twice-weekly curbside waste collection, bi-weekly curbside recycling collection, two bulky waste pickups a year, home chemical collection drop-off sites and mobile events, and 13 convenient Trash and Recycling Centers.

DSWM reminds customers of the importance of recycling correctly to combat contamination of the recycling stream. Only accepted recyclable items (cardboard, cartons, cans, paper, bottles, plastic tubs/jugs and lightly soiled pizza boxes) should be placed in blue recycling carts for collection. No plastic bags of any kind should be placed in recycling carts. For additional tips on how to recycle right, visit Recycle Right A to Z.

DSWM provides curbside waste and recycling collection services to more than 350,000 households in unincorporated Miami-Dade County and ten municipalities, including Aventura, Cutler Bay, Doral, Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes, Opa-Locka, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, Sunny Isles Beach and Sweetwater.
