JACKSONVILLE, Fla., June 16, 2025 – Waste & Recycling Workers Week, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to honoring the tireless efforts of waste and recycling workers, extends its deepest thanks to Casella Waste Systems, Inc. for their extraordinary commitment to their employees and the communities they serve. As we celebrate Waste & Recycling Workers Week, beginning with Global Garbageman Day on June 17, 2025, we humbly recognize Casella’s inspiring leadership and dedication to the waste and recycling industry.
John D. Arwood, founder of Waste & Recycling Workers Week (formerly known as National Garbage Man Day and Global Garbage Man Day), praised Casella’s contributions, stating, “John Casella and his team have shown remarkable support for their employees and the communities they serve. From educating children about sustainability to honoring their workers’ hard work, I see their efforts celebrated in the news and on social media time and again. Their commitment is a shining example for our industry.”

This week, Casella Waste Systems marks a significant milestone, celebrating its 50th anniversary by ringing the Opening Bell at the Nasdaq MarketSite on June 17, 2025, in recognition of Global Garbageman Day and the start of Waste & Recycling Workers Week. From its humble beginnings in 1975 as a single-truck operation, Casella has grown into a leader in sustainable waste management, serving over one million customers across ten eastern states and providing resource management services to more than 10,000 locations nationwide. Their early establishment of Vermont’s first recycling facility in 1977 and their recognition as a founding member of the EPA Climate Leaders program underscore their longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship.
Waste & Recycling Workers Week is profoundly grateful for Casella’s more than 5,000 employees, whose dedication ensures clean, safe, and sustainable communities. Their work, often unseen, is the backbone of the industry, and we are honored to celebrate them during this special week. Casella’s focus on sustainable materials management and their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions—preventing an estimated 5.6 tons of emissions for every ton emitted through their operations—demonstrate the profound impact of their team’s hard work.

“We are deeply moved by Casella’s example of humility, service, and excellence,” said Arwood. “Their efforts to uplift their employees and educate future generations inspire us all. On behalf of Waste & Recycling Workers Week, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to every Casella employee and leader for making a difference in our communities and our world.”

Waste & Recycling Workers Week invites communities, businesses, and individuals to join us in thanking Casella Waste Systems and all waste and recycling workers during this week-long celebration.
