Tommy has worked in waste hauling for over 30 years in the Denver community. Tommy has little formal education and has made his way based on his deep work ethic and internal sense of quality and responsibility to his family, his community, his fellow workers and the customers.

Tommy is a dedicated family man and valued member of his church and community. For decades, Tommy has worked to take kids off the streets and get them into his fitness and boxing club – a club he started and runs with his own money to help disadvantaged kids. He dedicates his time to this club every day, after a long day in the truck and with the drivers. He spends his own money to keep the club going and spends his vacation time traveling with his boxing teams to matches throughout the west. Tommy’s dedication and commitment to this club has helped dozens of kids get off the streets and work to better themselves by adopting Tommy’s can-do, take responsibility mentoring.

Bill Bradley, owner & CEO, 5280 Waste Solutions, said, “There is no one I can imagine more deserving of this award than Tommy Atencio. I can honestly tell you that Tommy Atencio has reached further and accomplished more relative to his circumstance than anyone I know.”
