City of Athens, Alabama Celebrates Waste and Recycling Workers Week

Athens honored its sanitation workers today with a breakfast for Waste and Recycling Workers Week and the week-long celebration. Mayor Ronnie Marks signed a proclamation, which reads in part:

WHEREAS, the nation celebrates June 17 as Waste and Recycling Workers Week and the week of June 17 as a celebration; and

WHEREAS, the men and women employed by the City of Athens and the non-profit organization Athens-Limestone Recycling Center make significant contributions to the safety, health, and welfare of citizens; and

WHEREAS, the City of Athens values and celebrates hundreds of trash collectors, Dumpster haulers, sewage workers, street cleaners, recycling employees and all others employed in the sanitation industry who serve residents and local businesses; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, WILLIAM R. “RONNIE” MARKS, mayor of the City of Athens, Ala., do hereby proclaim June 17 as Waste and Recycling Workers Week and encourage all citizens and local businesses to participate this week in opportunities to thank the men and women in the sanitation industry.
