STOCKTON — For two days, Fernando Lopez felt like a celebrity.
The 55-year-old had a truck personalized with his name, he went people watching from a helicopter flying over the Las Vegas strip and people asked to take his photo.
The first-class treatment was the culmination of 28 years of hard work and being named Driver of the Year in the large residential category by the National Waste & Recycling Association. He’s the first waste collection driver for Republic Services of Stockton to win the national award.
