Subject: Immediate Aid to Waste & Recycling Workers Affected by Hurricane Helene
Dear Community,
The aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which has been recorded as one of the most devastating storms to hit the Southeastern United States, has left a trail of destruction across multiple states. With Jacksonville, Florida, at the heart of this calamity, we have witnessed firsthand the immense loss and disruption caused by this natural disaster. As of the latest reports, Hurricane Helene has tragically claimed over 100 lives, with significant damage reported in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and beyond.
Among the cities hardest hit, Asheville, North Carolina, stands out with a staggering toll of 35 lives lost, showcasing the ferocity of Helene’s impact. Florida, particularly the Big Bend region, experienced unprecedented storm surges and wind speeds, marking this hurricane as the strongest on record to strike this area.
In these trying times, the unsung heroes are often our waste and recycling workers. These brave individuals are not only responsible for maintaining cleanliness and health in our communities but are also critical first responders in disaster scenarios. They clear debris, ensure roads are passable, and facilitate emergency services by removing obstacles, often at great personal risk.
Message from Steve Goode:
“In the wake of Hurricane Helene, our hearts are with every family affected, especially those in our waste and recycling communities who work tirelessly often under the radar. These workers are on the front lines, ensuring that even in chaos, there is a semblance of order. They clear our paths, they manage the aftermath, and they do so with a spirit that embodies the resilience of our entire region.
To all the sanitation workers, your dedication does not go unnoticed. In light of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Waste & Recycling Worker Week is launching an immediate relief effort. We are committed to providing direct support to you and your families. If you find yourself in need, please reach out to us. We are here to help.
100% of all donations during this crisis will go directly to the employees of waste & recycling companies and municipalities. Your contributions will ensure that these workers, who are always there for us, receive the support they need during this critical time.
