David Knapp

Company: Seneca Meadows Landfill

Years of Service: 14

Comments: “We are sad to report the death of one of our employees today,” Seneca Meadows said in a statement issued late Saturday night”

The fatality is believed to be the first on landfill property in 14 years. David Knapp, 35, of Ballston Spa, died Feb. 25, 2002, four days after he was hit by a steel-wheeled trash compactor. Knapp, who worked for Champagne Trucking in Albany, was cleaning out his tractor-trailer about 2:30 p.m. Feb. 21 when that accident occurred.

We will not forget you, David Knapp.

Together, let’s honor the memory of the men and women who have served by our side. Whether on the garbage trucks, delivering portable sanitation units, or working in the offices and repair shops, the employees of our industry serve important roles and are very special people. As we remember this fallen hero of the waste industry, we join with their family and co-workers to honor their service.
