Years of Service: 30
Comments: Steve Marshall, the chairman of logistics business Wincanton and waste management company Biffa, has died.
Marshall had held his position at Chippenham-headquartered Wincanton since December 2011 and at Buckinghamshire-based Biffa since June 2013.
He was previously chairman of Balfour Beatty, Delta, Torex Retail and Queens' Moat Houses. Prior to this he was group chief executive of Thorn and then Railtrack, having served as group finance director at each company.
Biffa chief executive Ian Wakelin said: "We are deeply saddened at the news of Steve's death. Steve played a guiding role in the recent development of the business, not least in our successful IPO.
We will not forget you, Steve Marshall.
Together, let’s honor the memory of the men and women who have served by our side. Whether on the garbage trucks, delivering portable sanitation units, or working in the offices and repair shops, the employees of our industry serve important roles and are very special people. As we remember this fallen hero of the waste industry, we join with their family and co-workers to honor their service.
