Niagara County Intoxicated Man Caught Stealing Garbage Can

WHEATFIELD — A 37-year-old Lockport man was charged with DWI following a traffic stop on Shawnee Road early Sunday morning.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, Shaun C. Harris, 6383 Robinson Road, was stopped for speeding around 1:38 a.m. He was determined to be intoxicated.

“When questioned regarding how many alcoholic beverages had he consumed, Mr. Harris initially stated only one,” according to the NCSO report. “Shortly after, Mr. Harris admitted he had ‘seven beers, but throughout the entire day.’ ” During the interview, Harris informed patrol that his license is currently revoked due to a driving while intoxicated conviction involving a personal injury accident in 2010. He stated he did three years in state prison as a result.

During an inventory search of the vehicle, deputies observed a large gray garbage can in the back seat of the vehicle. The garbage can had trash from Ted’s Hotdogs inside of it.

“Harris told patrol that when he pulled into Ted’s Hotdogs on Niagara Falls Boulevard to urinate outside, his passenger put the garbage can in his vehicle,” the arrest report states. Patrol attempted to contact the owner of Ted’s Hotdogs, but had negative results.

Harris’ blood alcohol content was found to be .11 pecent when tested at the New York State Police Lockport barracks. He was then transported to the Niagara County Jail, where he was held in lieu of $750 and scheduled to appear in the Town of Wheatfield this afternoon on charges of DWI, felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating out of ignition interlock restriction and speeding. Charges were pending for criminal possession of stolen property.
