PROCLAMATION
JUNE 17, 2019 – NATIONAL GARBAGEMAN DAY
WHEREAS, the nation celebrates June 17 as Waste and Recycling Workers Week; and
WHEREAS, the men and women employed in the refuse collection, hauling, and disposal industry in the community make significant contributions to the health and welfare of citizens; and
WHEREAS, according to the Center for Disease Control, the eradication of many diseases in the Western World is due in large part to higher public sanitation standards resulting from effective garbage control; and
WHEREAS, this is the County’s first recognition of the contributions of the refuse hauling community; and
WHEREAS, the County Utilities / Public Works Department will have programs to formally and publicly thank the refuse haulers and its employees that serve the community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim June 17, 2019 as Waste and Recycling Workers Week and encourages all citizens and local businesses to participate in opportunities to thank the local garbage men and women.
