Proclamation
WHEREAS, the citizens of New Mexico recognize the often thankless job of waste and recycling workers; and
WHEREAS, the people employed by local solid waste and recycling management services and facilities operating in the State of New Mexico make significant contributions to the safety, health, and welfare of our citizens; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico depends on the collection, hauling, processing, and disposal of waste and recyclables to promote a clean and safe community, and recognizes all solid waste and recycling workers as First Responders; and
WHEREAS, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the eradications of many diseases in the Western World is due in large part to the higher public sanitation standards resulting from effective garbage disposal; and
WHEREAS, the proper collection and disposal of waste and recyclables are vital to preventing diseases, litter, and the contamination of our air, lands, and water; and
WHEREAS, the State of New Mexico values and celebrates our local solid waste industry employees for their commitment to our residents, businesses, and the communities in keeping our communities safe and clean.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Governor of the State of New Mexico, do herby proclaim June 12, 2022 through June 19, 2022 as:
“Waste and Recycling Workers Week”
throughout the state of New Mexico.
