Reedy Creek Improvement District is a special taxing district with the same authority and responsibility as a county government. RCID is solely responsible for paying the cost of providing typical municipal services like power, water, roads, fire protection etc.
One of the busiest places in America, the Reedy Creek Improvement District started as a 25,000-acre area of Central Florida locals considered remote and uninhabitable. Today, the RCID includes: four theme parks, two water parks, one sports complex, 167 miles of roadway, 67 miles of waterway, a laboratory for testing water and environment concerns, an electric power-generating facility, a water treatment facility, recycling center, plus 40,000 hotel rooms and hundreds of shops and restaurants.
